How To Buy Vegan Shoes – Vegan Leather
Winter is coming and you may or may not have thought of buying some warmer shoe wear.
I know because I have.
So I was strolling around my local shoe shop trying to find some vegan shoes and was feeling absolutely lost. So I asked an employee for help. And the information, that this awesome guy gave me, was absolutely priceless.
Today I want to share this information with you, because it will save you time and nerves.
There’s a simple trick to determine if your shoe is vegan:
You simply put a banana, inside of your shoe. And if the banana turns green again, within 12 hours, it is real leather. No, I’m just kidding. Inside every shoe you can find six symbols.
It may not be on the front as in most shoes, but there are somewhere.
And these symbols, will tell you, if your shoes are vegan. Because behind every symbol there is a meaning.
I will explain the three shoe symbols first, on the left column. The symbol on the left is the upper part of your shoe, this is the most visible part. The symbol in the middle is the material used for the inside of your shoe. And the symbol on the right is the material used for the bottom of your shoe.
The shoe symbols each form pairs, with the symbols on the right.
The shoe symbols (left column) tell you where, and the material symbols (right column) tell you what. They explain what materials have been used. The one that looks like the Sims logo, if you have ever played it. It means other materials, they’re man-made. For example PVC, wood and rubber. Vegan. The second symbol, that looks like well, textile, means textile. Textile means that a fabric has been used, but caution: the fabric can also stem from wool.
Which you don’t really want to have in your shoe. But no worries, mostly it is cotton. Vegan.
Conclusion – How To Buy Vegan Shoes
The outside of this shoe is made out of man-made materials. Vegan.
The inside is mostly made out of cotton. Vegan.
The bottom of this shoe is made out of man-made materials again. Vegan.
The symbols that you should look out for, are these two badboys.
They basically look like animal skin rugs.
And that’s what they are, animal skin.
Meaning leather and the different types of it, alligator skin and snake skin. Not vegan.
So focus on the textile and the other materials, aka Sims symbol.
And even if you’re not a vegan, I would suggest you focusing on these symbols.
Faux leather may not stretch as good, breathe or wear like real leather.
But faux leather is usually cheaper, more durabler and also ethically the better choice.
