How To Discipline Yourself For Weight Loss By Using The ‘Tesla Strategy

Discipline. Willpower. Self control. Or as people in ancient time called it: Will.

1. What Is Will?

Will is the ability to control one’s emotion. The ability to control one’s actions. Even in spite of discomfort.

It’s the ability to deal with pain, fatigue, discomfort, anger, boredom and sadness.

It’s also the ability to delay gratification. It’s the ability to focus on the long-term, instead of being overly occupied with the short-term.

To put it simply: Discipline is doing things that you know you should do – whether you feel like them or not.

2. Discipline And Weight Loss

Losing weight is often an uncomfortable endeavour. Hence why a baseline of discipline is required to successfully push through it.

But discipline is not the main thing. What matters more is a strategy that strongly minimizes the discomfort felt.

In other words: The worse your weight loss strategy is, the more discipline you’ll need.

If your weight loss method is based on starving yourself – or long hours of depriving yourself of food – a lot of discipline and willpower is needed, right?

If your weight loss method is based on eating foods that signal your body that you have enough satiety – not a huge amount of willpower is needed.

3. How To Train Discipline

Discipline, or willpower, is not limited. It’s a ‘mental muscle’ that gets stronger with every use.

The best way to train your discipline is to expose yourself to controlled discomfort.

Be this:

  • A cold shower.
  • Short-term sleep deprivation.
  • Smart, painful workouts (especially cardio).
  • Eating more clean – and with less flavour.

As Naval Ravikant said: “You only have one brain.” Having a better ability to deal with pain and discomfort on one side of your life – will translate into an increased ability to deal with it on another.

Meaning: The better you get at dealing with the pain of cold water – the better you get at dealing with cravings during weight loss.
